問題內容
Hi doctor,
My cousin was told that she had 唾液癌 about 10 months ago. She had a little operation and got rid of the cancer and was fine until a month ago. Now, she is told that her cancer is at stage 2, and needs a bigger operation to remove it. Apparently chemotherapy does not work for her and so she needs an operation as soon as possible.
My questions are
1. What is the chance of her getting better?
2. How come chemotherapy does not work?
3. Does radiotherapy work for this particular cancer?
4. is this cancer the same as Lymphoma?
Thank you

1. The potentially curative therapy for salivary gland cancer is surgery with adequate safety margins. Radiation plays some post-operative adjuvant roles in case high risks pathological features are present in the surgical specimens. Chemotherapy only plays minor, palliative roles.
2. Salivary gland cancer is a different entity from lymphoma.
Lymphoma is of course chemotherapy sensitive.
3. I would like to agree that the chance for her of getting better is a biggger re-resection, i.e., surgery with adequate safety margins.
4. Of course, the pathology should be confirmed by wel qualified pathologists to be the salivary gland cancer.
Good luck, Best wishes !
